Automotive Stills
This photography project served as my master's thesis at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2014/15.
Titled "Automotive Stills," this series draws inspiration from the visual allure of cars. However, instead of focusing on their aesthetic appeal, my fascination lies in car accidents.
My intention with this series is to explore the concept of finding beauty within the context of death represented by cars. Although the reference to J.G. Ballard's "Crash" is present, my approach diverges from the erotic context depicted in the novel. In this project, staging car accidents is done solely for the purpose of capturing a photograph. By removing the characters from a contemporary setting, I aim to evoke a sense of detachment from the modern world. The viewer is encouraged to interpret their attitudes towards the situations and the spaces in which they unfolded.
